JEAN LaTIPPE. AKA - "Jean LaFitte." Old-Time, Breakdown. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody was in the repertoire of Loyd Wanzer (Caldwell, ID). On the original 1965 field recording of a noisy jam session in the Palace Hotel Bar in Missoula, Montana, where Loyd says the name of the tune, it was not clear what he said, but it sounded like "Jean LaTippe." The name of notorious pirate Jean LaFitte is sometimes mis-spelled "Jean LaTiffe," so there is speculation that this may be connected to the name of the tune.
