The song [Roud 3061] (tune with one stanza) appears in the c. 1812 music manuscript collection of Northumbrian musician John Bell (1783-1864), but was written by Thomas Thompson (d. 1816) and published in Newcastle chapbooks and later Northumbrian song collections.
