JOACK ABOVE ALL JOACKS. AKA - "Joke above all Jokes." Scottish, Country Dance Tune and Jig (6/8 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody was entered into the MacFarlane Manuscript (c. 1741, No. 16, p. 41), a music manuscript collection by Scottish fiddler and writing master biography:David Young, who was at the time living in Edinburgh. While many of the tunes in the collection have numerous variation sets, "Joack above all Joacks" has but two eight-bar repeated strains.

The title refers to the seeming plethora of triple-time dance tunes with the word "Joak" (Joke) in the title, all stemming from the hugely successful melody "Black Joak (The)," many of which preceded the word 'Joak' in the title with a color selection (i.e. "White Joak," "Red Joak," "Green Joak" etc.).
