JOHNNY PRINGLE. AKA and see "Miss Burnet's Reel," "Miss Jane Stewart," "Miss Jane Stewart's Strathspey-Pittyvaich (1)" (Marshall's titles), "Miss Jane Campbell's Strathspey." Scottish; Strathspey or Medley. G Major. Standard tuning. AAB (Athole, Gow, Skye): AABB' (Kerr). One of the first tunes composed by William Marshall, who titled it in his First Collection (1781) "Miss Burnet's Reel," but retitled it for his 1822 collection "Miss Jane Stewart's Strathspey--Pittyvaich." It was called "Miss Jane Campbell's Strathspey" by John Pringle for whom authorship was claimed when the tune was published in 1801. Perhaps in honor of Pringle it was titled "Johnny Pringle" when the Gow's included it in Repository (Part Third, 1806), although they declined to credit neither Marshall nor Pringle.
