KATE KELLY'S FANCY (Roga Cait-m Ceallaig). AKA and see "Bunch of Holly (The)," "Cat that Ate the Sidecomb (The)," "Ho! Awake," "gCeirtlin Snaithe in Aimhreidh," "Killoran's Reel (2)," "O'Keeffe's Reel (1)," "Private Ass and Cart," "Twin Katy's." Irish, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Boston music publisher Elias Howe printed a version of the tune as "Bunch of Holly (The)" in the 1860's, which later appeared as "Twin Katy's" in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883, also published by Howe). Breathnach (1976) finds the first part of "Doon Reel (1) (The)" related to both "Kate Kelly's Fancy" and "Nellie Donovan," and also to "Ravelled Hank of Yarn (1) (The)." Fr. John Quinn and Conor Ward find that both parts of "Kate Kelly's" correspond enough to be called cognate with an untitled reel inBook 2 of the large c. 1883 music manuscript collection of County Leitrim fiddler and piper biography:Stephen Grier (c. 1824-1894), for which see "Reel (98)."
