KING'S BIRTH DAY [1]. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The birthday of King George III, the first Hanoverian king born in England rather than Germany, was June 4th, 1738. He ruled from 1760-1820, and the date of his birthday was cause for a public celebration throughout Britain. The ruling King or Queen actually has two birthdays, a tradition that began in 1748 with George II, who was born in November, not a propitious weather month in England. Therefore a second took place on the second Saturday in each June, notwithstanding the actual date of each monarch's birthday.
