The tune is attributed to Countess Balcarres, Lady Elizabeth Dalrymple Lindsay (see "annotation:Lady Elizabeth Lindsay"), in John Watlen's Celebrated Circus Tunes (Edinburgh, 1791). The volume contains several other tunes attributed to the Countess. Lady Elizabeth Lindsay was the daughter of Lady Elizabeth Dalrymple Lindsay, aged about 10 at the time of Watlen's publication.
