"Lady Gordon Cumming's Stathspey" was composed by Elgin fiddler-composer biography:Donald Grant and published in his Collection of Strathspeys, Reels, Jigs &c. (1820-21). Lady Gordon Cumming at the time of Grant's issue was Eliza(beth) Maria Campbell of Islay (1795-1842), the oldest daughter of Colonel John Campbell of Shawfield and Islay who, in 1815, married Sir William Gordon Cumming-Gordon (1787-1854), 2nd Baronet of Altyre and Gordonstown. The couple had seven sons and six daughters. Sir William succeeded his father in 1806 and became, briefly, an MP for Elgin Burghs in the early 1830’s. wikipedia:Eliza_Maria_Gordon-Cumming was a horticulturalist, palaeontologist and scientific illustrator, as well as a Scottish aristocrat. Lady Cumming collected and studied Devonian fish fossils from the Old Red Sandstone of Morayshire, Scotland. She amassed a large and well-known collection which she illustrated, along with her daughter Lady Anne Seymour. Lady Cumming worked with other palaeontologists and geologists of the time including Louis Agassiz, William Buckland and Roderick Murchison.
Eliza died in 1842 following complications from the birth of the 13th child, and in 1846 Sir William wed again, to Jane Eliza MacIntosh (by whom he had more children). The seat of the family was Altyre House (now demolished) in Elginshire, Moray, south of Forres.
