LADY MARY LESLIE'S MINUET FOR THE FLUTE. AKA - "Lady Mary Lessley's Minuet for the Flute." Scottish, Minuet (3/4 time). E Flat Major (Dow/fiddle): G Major (Dow/flute). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Lady Mary Leslie's Minuet for the Flute" was composed by biography:Daniel Dow. There are a few Lady Mary Leslie's to whom the title may refer, but perhaps Lady Mary Leslie (1753-1799), the youngest daughter of John Leslie, 10th Earl of Rothes and his first wife, Hannah Howard, is the best candidate. However, by the time of Dow's publication she had married (in 1770) William Charles Colyear, 3rd Earl of Portmore, and had taken the name Colyear. Her portrait was painted by Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792) in 1766.
