LASSES O' BALLANTRAE, THE. AKA and see "Bonny Lass of Ballantrae (The)," "Lass of Ballantrae (The)." Scottish (originally), Canadian; Reel. Canada, Cape Breton. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. The melody has been attributed to 19th century composition by the Highland fiddler and collector Captain Simon Fraser [1], although it does not appear in any of his collections. It first appears with his name in Jospeh Lowe's mid-19th century collection.

The melody is popular among Cape Breton fiddlers, and has frequently been recorded.
