LE PETRE'S HORNPIPE. American; Hornpipe. D Major ('A' part) & A Major ('B' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB. "Le Petre's Hornpipe" was a popular contra dance tune in the 1880's and 1890's. The title appears in advertisements for a number of cheaply published music collections of the late 19th century. Dance instructions for "Le Petre's Hornpipe" were printed in John M. Schell's Prompting, How To Do It (New York, 1890, p. 56).
