LEE MILLS. Scottish, Strathspey (while time). A Major. AEae tuning (fiddle). AAB. "Lee Mills" was published by Perthshire fiddler-composer biography:John Bowie in his Collection of strathspey reels & country dances &c. (Edinburgh, c. 1789, p. 23). According to the Friends of Wighton site[1], Bowie's title may be an idiosyncratic spelling of the place-name Leysmill, a village near Friockheim in Angus, built for inhabitants who once worked a nearby quarry and a flax mill. The sandstone quarry, dating from the 1820's, produced paving stones.
