LILY, THE. AKA - "Lillie (The)," "Lili (Y)," "Lilly," "Mr. James Bennet’s." English, Welsh; Reel, Hornpipe. England, Northumberland. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCC. James Aird printed it in his Selection, vol. 2 (1785) as "Lillie (The)." Welsh versions can be found in Thomas D. Lleweln's Llewelyn Alaw’s Collection of Unpublished Welsh Airs (1858, No. 4, pp. 1-2) and in print in Nicholas Bennett's Alawon fy nywlad (1896) as "Lili (Y)." Scottish fiddler-composer William Marshall printed a version as "Mr. James Bennet’s", published in his posthumous 1845 collection.
