LOOK BEFORE YOU. AKA and see "Lassie Look Before Ye/You," "Miss Ross’ Strathspey—of Elgin (1)," "Miss Agnes Ross’s Reel." Scottish, Strathspey. D Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Cole): AAB (Gow). The melody was composed by William Marshall and originally titled "Miss Ross's Strathspey," published in his First Collection, 1781. The title "Look before You" is Gow's title for the tune, which appears in his Repository, Part Second, 1802, sans composer credit to Marshall. The strathspey, as with it's companion reel "Look Behind You", was entered into the large 1840 music manuscript collection of multi-instrumentalist John Rook, of Waverton, near Wigton, Cumbria.
