Annotation:Lord Lovat's Welcome
Back to Lord Lovat's Welcome
LORD LOVAT'S WELCOME. AKA and see "Moirear Sheim" or "Morair Sim." Scottish, (Slow) Strathspey. G Major (Skye): F Major (Athole, Fraser). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB' (Skye): AAB (Athole, Fraser). "This is the composition of Lord Lovat's minstrel, already mentioned, and celebrates his lordship's return from a proscription, which the Culloden papers narrate. This was taken down from the singing of Thomas Fraser of Achnacloich, father of the resent Mr. Fraser of Eskadale, who remembered the event and sung it with enthusiasm. It is the only instance wherein the editor obtained one of these melodies better sung elsewhere than at home" (Fraser). See note for "Annotation:Lord Lovat Beheaded" for more on Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat.
