Kent was known as the “Dean of Old-Time Fiddlers" of the state and won 31 first prizes for his fiddling,including the 1927 Arkansas State Fiddle Championship. He was recorded in the field in 1959 by John Quincy Wolf, a folklorist from Lyon College.
