LOST INDIAN [3]. American, Reel (cut time). USA, western North Carolina, Arksnsas. D Major (most versions): E Major (Hensley). Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Silberberg): AABB (Phillips): AABB' (Brody). The tune, known as a local Surry County, North Carolina, regional melody, is similar in many ways to "Cherokee Shuffle." The second strian is a somewhat elongated 10 bars in some of these versions of "Lost Indian". "Lost Indian (3)" was popularized by the fiddling of Kenny Baker, particularly among bluegrass musicians, but his influence was widespread.
