MACLEAN'S SCOTCH MEASURE. AKA - "MacLean's Scots Measure." AKA and see Mr. McLaine's Scotch-Measure." Scottish, Scotch Measure (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody appears in the Blaikie MS. (1692), and the title is the earliest use of the term "Scots Measure" (Emmerson, 1971). The Blaikie MS. is a music manuscript collection of tunes for the Viol da Gamba, from engraver Andrew Blaikie of Paisley.
There was a noted dancing master in Edinburgh named Maclean.
