MARMONT'S RETREAT [1].   English, Country Dance Tune (2/4).   A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Marmont's Retreat" probably refers to  Marshal Auguste de Marmont (1774-1852) who led the 50,000-man Army of Portugal for Napoleon during the Peninsular War in northern Spain. Marmont was forced to retreat after the Battle of Salamanca, where the French forces were defeated by the Anglo-Portuguese army under Wellington.
