MARY ON THE RAILWAY. AKA - "Lady on the Railway." Irish, Reel (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. "Mary on the Railway" is a reel contained in the music manuscript collection of biography:Rev. Luke Donnellan dating to around the turn of the 20th century. Donnellan was a fiddler and cleric who published part of the manuscript in 1909 in the Journal of the County Louth Archeological Society, although this reel was not one that was included. Donnellan researcher Gerry O'Connor believes the ms. may not be the collecting work of Donnellan himself, but rather a collection from an unknown but musically competent fiddler that reflects the repertory of a musical lifetime. The ms. later came into Donnellan's possession. O'Connor also finds the tune as "Lady on the Railway" in the repertory lists of 19th century County Monaghan piper Phillip Goodman.
