MASON'S CAP, THE. AKA and see "Mason's Apron." Scottish, Reel (2/4 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. One of the "Mason's Apron," "Wake Susan/Wake Up Susan" family of tunes, albeit with an initlal interval jump much more modest. The "Mason's Cap" title seems unique to Boston music publisher Elias Howe & Co. publications, but Howe (in Musician's Omnibus Nos. 6 & 7) identified the provenance as "Scotch".
