"May Day [8]" was first printed by London music publisher John Walsh in his The New Country Dancing Master. . . 2d Book (1710, p. 143), followed by rival London music publisher JohnYoung, successor to the Playford publishing concerns, in his Second Volume of the Dancing Master, 1st edition (c. 1713, No. 85, and retained through the fourth and last edition of 1728).
