AAB. “Miss Bain’s Reel” was first printed under that title in James Aird’s Selection of Scotch, English, Irish and Foreign Airs, vol. 5 (Glasgow, 1797, p. 55), however, around the same time it appeared in Malcolm MacDonald's 1788 collection as "Miss Menzies of Culdar (2)." The melody also appears in the music manuscript copybook of fiddler John Burks, dated 1821. Unfortunately, nothing is known of Burks, although he may have been from the north of England. It was also entered (along with a number of others from Aird's 5th volume) into the large 1840 music manuscript collection of multi-instrumentalist John Rook, of Waverton, near Wigton, Cumbria.
