MISS CHARLOTTE HOPE OF CRAIGIEHALL. Scottish, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Miss Charlotte Hope of Craigiehall" was composed by Perthshire fiddler-composer biography:John Bowie and was printed in his Collection of Strathspey Reels and Country Dances &c. At the time Bowie published his collection the estate of Craigiehall (near Cramond, about six miles west of central Edinburgh) was in the possession of Charles Hope-Weir (1710–1791), second son of Charles Hope, 1st Earl of Hopetoun. The Hopes of Craigiehall were related to the Hopes of Hopetoun House, a neighboring estate. The manor Craigiehall was designed by Sir William Bruce, with input from James Smith, and completed in 1699. It replaced a former tower house [Helen] Charlotte Hope (1773-1801) was one of the children of Charles Hope-Weir's third marriage, to Helen Dunbar (d. 1794), daughter of George Dunbar.
