MISS DUNBAR OF NORTHFIELD'S STRATHSPEY. Scottish, Strathspey (whole time). F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. "Miss Dunbar of Northfield's Strathspey" was composed by Elgin fiddler-composer biography:Donald Grant and published in his Collection of Strathspeys, Reels, Jigs &c. (1820-21). "Miss Dunbar of Northfield's Strathspey" was composed perhaps for one of the numerous daughters of Sir Alexander (1742-1791) and Helen Dunbar, 5th of Northfield: Helen (1773-1790), Margaret, Georgina, Louisa, Emilia, Jane (or Jean, 1770-1857), or Margaret Alicia. Alternatively, it may have been composed for one of the daughters of one of their son and heir, also named (Sir) Alexander Dunbar (1772-1847), 6th Baronet of Northfield. Alexander the 6th Baronet married firstly Helen Penuel Cumming Dunbar and secondly Mary Dunbar. The daughters names were Helen, Margaret, Georgina, Louisa, Emelia, Jane and Margaret Alicia. A lot of 'Miss Dunbars' to choose from!
