Composed by Biography:William Marshall (1748-1833), first appearing in his 1781 collection (p. 4). Cairnfield was the site of a house that was demolished in 1802 to make way for a new one which survives today. The name cairnfield derives from a Pictish cairn that one could be found on the site (Cowie, The Life and Times of William Marshall, 1999).
