MISS JEAN CAMPBELL ARDMORE'S JIG. AKA and see "Drover Lads (The)." Scottish, Jig (6/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Miss Jean Campbell Ardmore's Jig" was printed by Islay fiddler-composer biography:Alexander Mackay" (born 1775) in hisCollection of Reels, Strathspeys and Slow Tunes (c. 1822). It is one of a number of tunes in the collection either composed for or named for a member of the family of Archibald and Helen Campbell of Islay, and the second tune named for Jean, one of their several children. Since Mackay did not append his name to the tune, he did not claim it as his own composition; it is, at any rate, a variant of the Scottish jig "Drover Lads (The)." Mackay may have been a music teacher to the household or otherwise connected with them, and this is perhaps a favorite tune of his young pupil.
