"Miss MacLeod of Dalvey's Favorite" was composed by biography:William Christie (1778-1849). a dancing master, postman, song collector and fiddler-composer from Cuminestown, Aberdeenshire. Miss MacLeod was a daughter of Captain Alexander MacLeod (1756-1821) of Dalvey, near Forres in Morayshire, who made his fortune serving in the Indian Army. He married a distant relative, Marion MacLeod of Berneray, around the year 1796, shortly after which he acquired the Dalvey estate. The couple had eleven children.
