Sheet Music for "Miss Murray's Reel [3]"Miss Murray's Reel [3]ReelBook: Joshua Campbell – A Collection of New Reels & Highland Strathspeys (Glasgow, 1789, p. 6)Notes: AEae tuning on the fiddle. Campbell's transcription is how the tune should be played incross-tuning, but fingered 'as-if' it was in standard tuning. Thus the low 'G' notes ofthe transcription sound like 'A' notes when played.Transcription: AK/Fiddler’s Companion

MISS MURRAY'S REEL [3]. AKA and see "Anthony Murray's Reel," "Miss Murray's Strathspey." Scottish, Reel (cut time). A Major. AEae tuning (fiddle). AAB. The tune was originally published by Alexander McGlashan as "Anthony Murray's Reel." The tune was directed by Campbell to be played in AEae tuning on the fiddle. Campbell's transcription for his AEae tunes depicts notes to be fingered in standard (GDae) tuning, but when sounded they are in the correct key. Thus the low 'G' notes of the transcription sound like 'A' notes when played. Similarly, the 'G' notes in the first two measures (and elsewhere in the tune) are to be played with the finger on the D string, rendering an 'A' note, rather than playing an open 'A' note on the A string.
