MORAN'S HORNPIPE. AKA - "Moran's Fancy." AKA and see "Gallagher's Fancy," "Leitrim Fancy (1) (The), "Michael Gallagher's Reel." Irish, Hornpipe. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune was recorded in New York in 1924 by uilleann piper Michael Gallagher as the second tune in a medley called "Moran's Hornpipes" (preceded by "Plains of Boyle (The)"). Francis O'Neill printed the tune in his Waifs and Strays of Gaelic Melody, obtained from the playing of Chicago fiddler Patrick Stack, who recorded commercially on 78 RPM with piper Eddie Mullaney. O'Neill remarks: "The above traditional Irish hornpipe now printed for the first time, circulated without a name among the fiddlers around Listowell, County Kerry, in Stack's student days. The present title is that by which it has been given publicity by Michael J. Gallagher a clever performer on the Irish or Union pipes, recently from Ireland."
