'MR. ALEXANDER OSWALD'S REEL. Scottish, Reel (cut time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. "Mr. Alexander Oswald's Reel" was composed by biography:James Walker (1771-1840) a musician, fiddler-composer and music teacher of Dysart, Fife, Scotland. The tune is named for Alexander Oswald, the fourth son of James Townsend Oswald and Janet Gray, who was born in December, 1780. The Oswalds were merchants and politicians in Kirkcaldy, Fife, and, with the St Clair family were the political powerhouses in the region in the latter 19th century. They were presumably patrons of Walker, who composed several tunes for the family in his collection.
