MR. JOHN MACDOUGALL ARDBEG'S REEL. Scottish, Reel (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. "Mr. John MacDougall Ardbeg's Reel" was composed by Islay fiddler-composer biography:Alexander Mackay (born c. 1775) and printed in his Collection of Reels, Strathspeys and Slow Tunes (c. 1822). The title honors John MacDougall, founder of the Ardbeg distillery, licensed after having produced illicit whisky since 1798. The operations of the distillery, located on the south side of the island, eventually passed to John's brother Archibald, with John devoting himself to agriculture and producing the barley for the business.
