Hornpipe or Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Mullingar Races" was popularized by the 1931 recording of Sligo fiddle players Paddy Kiloran and Paddy Sweeney, in New York. The "Bealltaine/May Day" title comes from P.W. Joyce's Old Irish Folk Music and Songs (1909), learned from his father in Limerick in the 1840's and heard again from the playing of Glenmalure, County Wicklow, miners in 1853.
