Apparently the Murphy brothers had heard the tune at a fleadh in Dingle. According to Jackie Daly the source was likely another Murphy, Denis Murphy of Co. Kerry. MURPHY'S (REEL) [3]. AKA and see "Galway Shawl (The)," "Raheen Reel (3)." Irish, Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Named for County Wexford harmonica player Phil Murphy. However, the tune may be one of Kerry fiddler Dennis "The Weaver" Murphy's tunes. According to Kevin Burke (who played the tune as the last of his "Raheen Medley" set, learned from Murphy and his sons), Phil's son said his father had learned it from Kerry musicians from Dingle, and called it "Dingle Reel (The)" for convenience.
