NEW BANK OF IRELAND, THE. Irish, Reel (cut time). A Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'. "New Bank of Ireland" is contained in vol. 1 of County Mayo farmer and fiddler Philip Carolan's (c. 1839-1910) music manuscript collection, probably compiled 1863-73. The reel is a member of the large "Haughs of Cromdale (The)" tune family, particularly identified by the common first strains, while the second strains show much more variation. Carolan's tune is closest to the 'Haugh's' family member "My Bride is a Young Thing," a reel from County Cork cleric and uilleann piper Canon James Goodman's mid-19th century collection.
