NEW TATTER JACK. AKA - "Tatter Jack." American, Quickmarch (6/8 time). B Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "New Tatter Jack" is a favorite fife tune among reenactment bands, sourced to George Bruce and Dan Emmett's Civil War military tutor written for the Union Army as a resource for training fifers and drummers. The melody has similar characteristics in the first strain to the "Bung Your Eye" family of tunes (that also includes "Off to the Hunt," "Mount Your Baggage (1)," "Antrim Lasses (The)," "Bonnie Strathmore," and "Boys of Carrigallen (The)").
