NEWFIELD COTTAGE. AKA - "Marshall's Strathspey." Scottish, Strathspey. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by William Marshall (1748-1833). Newfield is the name of the cottage Marshall built in Dandaleith, near Craigellachie Bridge, in which he spent the final years of his life. It was designed by Marshall and built by him for his retirement. He died at the cottage, "universally esteemed," on the 29th May, 1833, aged eighty-five; and his wife (nee Jean Giles) died at the same place, and at the same age, on the 12th December 1825. The strathspey was published by Gow in 1788 and Marshall in 1822.
