NORE IS LONG, THE. Irish, Air (2/4 time). Ireland, Kilkenny. F Major. Standard tuning (tuning). AB. Identified as a Kilkenny ballad air by collector George Petrie. The town of Kilkenny is built on both banks of the River Nore in the province of Leinster. The Nore is some 87 miles long, rising from Devil's Bit Mountain, County Tipperary, and emptying into the sea at Waterford. Together with the River Suir and River Barrow, it is one of the rivers known collectively as the Three Sisters.
