OKLAHOMA RUN [1]. AKA- "Old Purcell". American, Reel. USA; Ozarks, Oklahoma. C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The first part of the tune is that more familiarly known as "Green Willis (1)," which is itself a version of the "New Rigged Ship (1) (The)." The title commemorates the famous public land offering of 1899 [1], while the alternate title refers to the town of Purcell, Oklahoma. The tune was collected and transcribed by the folk music division of the Oklahoma Music Program in the 1930's. Stan Jackson's "Oklahoma Run (2)" is a distanced version of Thede's tune.

The alternate title, "Old Purcell" refers to the county seat of McClain County, Oklahoma, in the middle of the state, founded as a railroad town in 1887.
