OLD PIGEON ON THE GATE, THE (An Sean-Cholúr ar an nGeata). AKA and see "Carnanban," "Drummond Lasses," "Kieran Kelly's Reel," "Miss Dallahyde's Reel." Irish, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Related to "Pigeon on the Gate (1)." Researchers Father John Quinn and Conor Ward find the earliest version of this tune in the large music manuscript collection of fiddler Alex Sutherland (1873-1967) of Drumreilly, Co Leitrim, who called it "Fenagh Abbey Reel." Fr. Quinn also finds a distanced version of the melody set as an untitled single jig (6/8 time) in Darley & McCall's Feis Ceoil Collection of Irish Airs (1914, No. 83, p. 38), collected from John Ferguson (alias John Vargus) a flute player and farm laborer from Rathangan, Co. Wexford.
