OLIVE BRANCH HORNPIPE. AKA and see "Humphrey's Hornpipe (2)," "Humphrey's Reel," "Reconciliation (The)." American, Hornpipe. A Major. Standard. AABB. John Hartford finds that the melody "hints at" the Cole's (1940) "Peter Street (1)," and the second strain suggests O'Neill's "Flower of the Flock." The title "Olive Branch" in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883) perhaps has to do with the aftermath of the American Civil War, which ended in 1865. Paul de Grae suggests the Ryan title may be the source of O'Neill's "Reconciliation" name).
