OVER THE BRIDGE TO PEGGY [1]. Irish, Reel. D Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB (Roche). The tune was published by Padraig Mac Aodh O'Neill in his Songs of Uladh, collected by him in 1903 in Donegal from the playing of an elderly Fanad, Kilmacrennan, Donegal, farmer and schoolmaster named Proinseas Mac Suibhne. The first strain of the reel is shared with "Kitty in the Lane (1)." The first strain is also cognate with the first strain of "Biddy Brading;" the second strains of the tune are also harmonically similary, but melodically less so, although may be cognate.
