Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Ross): AAB (Manson, Petrie). The tune was originally published in Edinburgh by fiddler-composer and bandleader biography:Alexander McGlashan under the title "Larickille," and, in the same year (1780), by biography:Angus Cumming under the title "Monro's Rant (The)." Fr. John Quinn also finds later cognates as "Miss Johnson's Reel (3)" in dancing master Thomas Wilson's collection (London, 1816), and "Am Bodach Lúideach Odhar" in Stewart-Robertson's Athole Collection (1884). The first strains of "Miss Ross's Reel (2)" and biography:Joshua Campbell's "Perth Hunt (2) (The)" are shared with this tune family, although the second strains diverge. The first couple of measures are similar to Petrie's "Duchess of Atholl (3)," from his Second Collection. A tune called "Peep o' Day," perhaps this one, was one of the reels played in the Walls District of Shetland (according to Old-Lore Miscellany of Orkney, Shetland, Caithness and Sutherland, vol. VI, Part 1, Jan., 1913, p. 7) [1]
