PETIT BÛCHEUX, LE (The Little Lumberjack). AKA - "Lep'tit bûcheux." AKA and see "Lord MacDonald (4)." French-Canadian, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA’BB’. An irregular version of the famous Scottish tune “Lord MacDonald (4),” the second strain having two beats added at the end of the 2nd turn. The tune was also recorded by La Famille Soucy on a 78 RPM, but was popularized in modern times by fiddler André Alain (1931-2000) of St-Basile-de-Portneuf, near Québec City. An earlier version of the same tune was recorded by fiddler A.J. Boulay as "Virginia Reel Part 1" in 1923. See Jos Bouchard's "Reel St-Émile" and Georges Frappiers' "Sets canadiens (1)" for other derivatives of "Lord MacDonald." See also note for "annotation:Reel McDonnell" for more.
