PIGEON ON THE GATE [7]. AKA and see “Morning Fair,” “Texarkana Hornpipe,” “Tomorrow Morning,” “Yarmouth Hornpipe (1).” English, Hornpipe. England, East Anglia. C Major (most versions): D Major (Callaghan). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Pigeon on the Gate" is the name used by older East Anglian musicians for the tune that appears in older collections as "Manchester Hornpipe (1)," AKA “Rickett's Hornpipe." The hornpipe, played at a fast clip, is a favorite vehicle for stepdancing in the region. It can be found under the “Yarmouth Hornpipe (1)” title in the 1850-1880 music manuscripts of George H. Watson (Swanton Abbott, Norfolk). Melodeon player Oscar Woods played the tune in the key of 'G', while Percy Brown played it in 'D'.
