PORTHOLE OF THE KELP. Irish, Reel (cut time). D Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA’BB’. Clare fiddler Bobby Casey is often credited with composing the tune. The tune appears under the “Porthole” title on his album “Taking Flight.” The tune is a member of the family of Dorian mode tunes that includes “Custom Gap (The)” and “Tuttle's Reel," and, more distantly, the mixolydian “Mills are Grinding (1) (The).”
