POST COACH, THE. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Originally published by Charles and Samuel Thompson in their third country dance collection (London, 1773). The melody was entered into the 1788 music manuscript copybook of fiddlers John and William Pitt Turner (Norwich, Conn.), as do several from the Thompson’s 1773 collection.
