PRINCE OF ORANGE'S MARCH [1], THE. English, March (whole time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The march began as a song air, first published on song sheets and in dramatist and songwriter wikipedia:Henry_Carey_(writer)'s (1690-1743) Delightful Century, vol. 2 (1740), John Simpson's Delightful Pocket Companion, vol. 2 (1745) and similar collections. "Prince of Orange's March" was written and composed by Carey and appeared in his first highly successful masque, Britannia, or the Happy Nuptials, for the wedding of the Prince of Wales in 1734. It enjoyed 60 performances at Goodman's Fields. Soon afterwards the melody began appearing in instrumental tutors and collections of Marches. It continued to be published into the 19th century.

"Prince of Orange's March" was also entered into the music manuscript collections of Irish musician Jeremiah Regan (Bandon, 1746), Welsh fiddler John Thomas (1752), and John Rook (Waverton, Cumbria, 1840).
