PRINCE OF WALES' DELIGHT [2]. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). England, Yorkshire. C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Merryweather and Seattle call this a "hypnotic little tune” after the manner of a French bourree. Their source, Yorkshire fiddler Lawrence Leadley, apparently obtained this tune, and a number of others in his collection, from the Thompson’s 1788 country dance volume. The earliest sound recording of the tune is on the 2nd Barrel, 3rd tune, of a mechanical Chamber Barrel Organ [1], hand-built by John Langshaw (1718-1798), Organ Maker, Lancaster, c. 1785. The organ is one of three surviving Langshaw organs.
