PRINCESS ROYAL [3], THE. English, Morris Dance Tune (2/2 or 4/4 time). England; Cotswolds, Shropshire. G Major (Ashman, Bacon, Barnes, Carlin, Mallinson, Raven): F Major (Bacon–Sherborne). Standard tuning (fiddle). ABC (Raven): AABB (Ashman, Bacon–Abingdon): ABCBCB (Bacon, Barnes, Mallinson–Fieldtown, Oddington, Sherborne): AABA'A'B (Carlin): AABCCCC (Bacon–Bidford). These duple-time versions were collected from the villages of Abingdon (Berkshire), Bidford (Warwickshire), Fieldtown (collector Cecil Sharpe's name for Leafield, Oxfordshire), Oddington (Oddington) and Sherborne (Gloucestershire) in England's Cotswolds. The melody is a major key variant of "Princess Royal (1) (The)."
